To Be Like Jesus

February 1, 2014

Luke 6:40A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.

The teacher we follow is poor in spirit, pure in heart, meek, merciful, a peacemaker. Jesus is the embodiment of the Beatitudes. And His followers should be like Him.

Lord Jesus stir my heart to be more and more like You. As I read the below beatitudes, prompt me to yield my heart to Your leading. Thank You that as my heart displays the changes You reveal, I will experience Your joy that even severe persecution can’t destroy!

.

The Beatitudes Matthew 5:3-12
NKJV MSG
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 3 You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 4 You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 5 You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. 6 You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. 7 You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 8 You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 9 You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 10 You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.
11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you 11-12 Not only that—count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—give a cheer, even!—for though they don’t like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company. My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble.

Blessed Are Those Who Mourn

December 14, 2011

Matthew 5:4 NKJV … Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Matthew 5:4 MSG … You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.

Those who mourn[3996] = Synonym for: To Grieve[5932]
Grief manifested, so great that it cannot be hid. Usually accompanied by weeping/ loud wailing

Mark 16:10She went and told those who had been with Him, as they mourned[3996] and wept[2799].

These shall be comforted.

John 14:15-18 KJV … If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Lord when my heart is heavy, weighed down with grief; please help me to remember Your promise to come to me. Thank You Lord Jesus that You are our Comforter. You come along side to comfort and encourage those who belong to You. Help me to remember to look for and receive Your embrace. Thank You that after receiving the comfort that only You can give, we will be able to comfort others in Your name, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of sympathy (pity and mercy) and the God [Who is the Source] of every comfort (consolation and encouragement), Who comforts (consoles and encourages) us in every trouble (calamity and affliction), so that we may also be able to comfort (console and encourage) those who are in any kind of trouble or distress, with the comfort (consolation and encouragement) with which we ourselves are comforted (consoled and encouraged) by God. -2Cor 1:3-4 AMP
